Ep. 12 | Improving Controlled Substance Compliance & Safety with Matt Ruiter and Camden Carter

In this episode, I am delighted to be joined by Camden Carter and Matt Ruiter to talk about controlled substances! Camden is a senior at Brigham Young University. Her senior research project focused on controlled substances in private veterinary practices. Now, she is dipping her toes in the world of entrepreneurship by partnering with Unified Information Devices and is excited to bring innovation to the vet market.

Matt is the Cheif Scientific Officer at UID and is a former scientist turned business owner. Matt works diligently to innovate the research world through the power of RFID. He created the Controlled Substance Safety Solution for laboratories but has seen it’s need in veterinary practices.

MATT & CAMDEN’S ADVICE FOR OTHER VETERINARY PROFESSIONALS

During our conversation, both Matt and Camden share their advice to other veterinary professionals.

Camden says: “I would say, go for it! Ask questions and be willing to be vulnerable. When I first started, I didn’t know what RFID was. I didn’t know what Ketamine was. It’s been a massive learning curve for me. I’m only 22 years old so it’s proof that you can learn something new everyday. If you are interested in being entrepreneurial and innovating you practice, go for it. Ask questions and make those connections. I think the connections we make, make all of the difference in the end. If I hadn’t been reaching out to people, I would have never have talked to Matt and this never would have become a potential career for me. I think that being vulnerable and putting yourself out there is everything. Just got for it!

Matt shares with us: “Be curious. Look at a situation and ask questions, don’t be afraid to make mistakes. You are going to make a lot of them. We all do. How you learn from them is everything. Ask the questions you need to and learn everything you can.”
